THE Lambourn Open Day has announced that it will be sponsored by The Sir Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust. The new five-year deal which will start at the 2018 Open Day and will run through to 2022.

Mark Smyly, Chairman of the Lambourn Open Day, said: “We are thrilled to have joined up with the Peter O’Sullevan Trust in a five-year sponsorship of the Lambourn Open Day, and are most grateful for their outstanding support. I believe, and hope, that it will prove equally worthwhile for both of us. There are plenty of ways for us to promote the Trust, and also, especially on the day itself, the charities they support.”

The annual Berkshire event, started in 1990, already raises money for Lambourn’s registered charity, The Lambourn Valley Housing Trust and this deal comes at another vital time in its fund-raising efforts. Plans are already underway to build six two-bedroom flats for single stable staff, to go with the 20 houses that have already been built or bought for married staff with Smyly going on to add that this latest building will be named in memory of Sir Peter.

The Sir Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust has distributed over £4.5 million between equine charities since 1997 and Nigel Payne, on behalf of the trust, said: “When we were approached by the Lambourn Open Day to become headline sponsor of this long established and highly successful event, it took our Trustees very little time to decide that this was an occasion that Peter would love to support. As a group there are always two questions we need to answer: Would Peter be pleased to support the cause? Will it create a suitable legacy to him? In committing to The Peter O’Sullevan Lambourn Open Day for five years, we are confident that we have the right answer to both questions.”

The first Peter O’Sullevan Lambourn Open Day will be on Good Friday, 30th March 2018.
